Marge, Bill & Jericho's New Scotty

Marge and I have been looking for another Scotty for several months now.  We have traveled several thousand miles through out the North East, visiting no less than 4 different states and looking at probably 8 or 10 different Scotties that were up for sale.

So now I'll bring you up to date on the “rest of the story”. Firstly, you probably would not believe the actual number of Scotty campers that are really out there looking for a new home.   When we really looked we found a whole bunch of them.  What we also found it unbelievable how many of them are for sale by people who really don’t know a thing about them. Then there are equally large number the people who have Scotties that should have been junked years ago  There are also a very large number of people trying to sell these  “Junker's” only to make a quick buck off them and are willing to say or do anything to sell them. One guy we ran into swore up and down that his little beauty had never had a leak even though the walls were still wringing wet after the last rain storm. We were beginning to think that we would never find our next Scotty.  We had begun to think that perhaps we had set our standards too high.............

And then, and then,  and then ........    along came DAN................

Dan lives a little south of Selinsgrove Pa.  in the little river side town of Trevorton, Pa........  We found his for sale listing on an obscure Craig’s List for Harrisburg, Pa.   Several phone conversations with Dan looked positive so early Saturday morning (5 AM) and we were off to see our latest prospect..... Well the trip turned out to be a complete nightmare including a 2 tractor trailer accident on the Pa turnpike that closed the roadway for nearly an hour while they put out the fires (one of the trucks was completely destroyed by fire) and cleaned up the carnage.  Well we were a little late getting to Dan’s place,  BUT....... as we pulled up the drive way I leaned over to Marge and whispered  “ I think we have a winner”. About an hour later and some minor haggling we became the new proud owners of a 1967 Serro Scotty 15 foot front Gaucho.

We fell in love with it immediately.   This little beauty even topped the condition of our 66 Tonga that we had purchased in Michigan almost a year to the date earlier. The NEW 67 now known as “BIG BOY” is completely stock inside and out.  Its in near perfect condition with NO LEAKS ever. The exterior looks like it had never been down the road.  No creases, no dents, no scratches and only some very small stone dents.  The aluminum windows show no pitting are fully screened and all cranks are smooth and operating perfectly.  The door with upper jalousie window is nearly perfect and Mr. Bergman's L-66 lock looks great with little or no pitting and operates beautifully and yes there are 3 keys. (now there is a find!) The interior is the beat part......Its completely Original, right down to the John Serro blue Fleck paint, Gas light,  toilet, 2 burner stove and floor mounted furnace.  And get this, They all worked!!!!   The only deviation from original is the fridge.   The original fridge was rusted out and was replaced with a newer Norcold  Gas/Electric unit.  Apparently Dan the man, was only the 2 owner since it rolled off the assembly line, and although Dan was only the second owner both he and the previous owner took extremely  good care of their camper.   Dan indicated that , in the five years he owned it, it was always washed and dried after every outing and then stored between usages and over winter months in a heated garage.

I could not get the money out of my pocket fast enough............. It is now ours, Jericho has put his seal of approval on it (he peed on the tire) I guess that’s a sign of approval and Little Boy (the Tonga) has moved over to make room for “BIG BOY” under the porch where cleanup and restoration will transform it into a real thing of beauty......

End of another chapter and the beginning of a NEW LOVE STORY!!!!!!
