Cathy & Bill Heilman and their 1978 HiLander

Our '78 Highlander "Nellie" (named after my brothers Scottish Terrier)  provided us with a means to camp with my church group on a volunteer trip to Greensburg, Ks.  Greensburg was 95% leveled by a F5 tornado that occurred May 4th, 2007.  We joined approximately 340 other volunteers as part of the rebuilding effort during this years spring break, March 15-23, 2008.

The town, normally of 1600 (now 680) residents was quite impacted by the size of this group.  Our church group of 23 from Paola, KS, worked with volunteers from Oklahoma and Nebraska to continue building a home for a young couple that was devastated by the tornado.  Since Greensburg is starting virtually from scratch, most construction is environmentally "green".  Our project was a small house of concrete/foam sandwich construction with stucco and masonry siding.  Our Scotty was ideal for this 8 day trip because we could get by on 20A electricity or battery, fuel economy was better than our bigger trailer due to being able to run the pickup in overdrive, and we could haul our own water.  The effort was a very worthwhile and rewarding experience for us and our Scotty proved to be a valuable asset.

Best regards to you and the NSSO, Bill and Cathy Heilman from Spring Hill, KS.
